OnePlus Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. is a Chinese consumer electronics company headquartered in the Tairan Building in the Futian District’s Cheong Temple subdistrict in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. It was founded in December 2013 by Pete Lau and Carl Pei and is currently majority-owned by Oppo, a BBK Electronics and Vivo subsidiary, Realme, and iQOO. The company is best known for manufacturing smartphones and officially serves 34 countries and regions worldwide as of July 2018.
History
Former Oppo vice presidents Pete Lau and Carl Pei created OnePlus on December 16, 2013. According to Chinese public records, the sole institutional shareholder of OnePlus is Oppo Electronics. Oppo Electronics, not Oppo Mobile (the phone maker), is a significant investor in OnePlus, according to Lau, and they are “in talks with other investors.” However, OnePlus has confirmed that it uses Oppo’s manufacturing line and shares some of the supply chain resources with Oppo.
The company’s primary goal was to design a smartphone that balanced superior quality with a lower price than other phones in its class, believing that users would “never settle” for lower-quality devices produced by other companies.”We will never be unique for the sake of being unique,” Lau said. Everything we do has to improve the actual user experience in everyday use.” He aspired to be the “Muji of the technology industry,” emphasizing his focus on high-quality products with simple, easy-to-use designs.
Continuing Lau’s partnership with the Oppo N1 platform, OnePlus entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Cyanogen Inc. to base Android distribution of its products on a variant of the popular CyanogenMod custom ROM and use its trademarks outside of China.
The company introduced its first device, the OnePlus One, on April 23, 2014, to capture the market from the Google Nexus series. In December 2014, along with the OnePlus One in India exclusively through Amazon, OnePlus announced plans to establish a presence in the country, with plans to open 25 official walk-in service centers across India.
OnePlus recruited Han Han in April 2014 to help market the company’s goods in mainland China. The business extended its activities to the European Union on March 9, 2014.
Following a complaint by Micromax alleging exclusivity to ship phones with Cyanogen OS software in India, the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court barred the import and selling of OnePlus One phones on December 16, 2014. On December 21, 2014, the ban was lifted. The device still ships with Cyanogen OS; however, a custom version of Android specially designed by OnePlus and called OxygenOS has been released, allowing subsequent OnePlus devices to be sold in India.
On January 23, 2015, OnePlus launched its products in Southeast Asia for the first time, partnering with Lazada Indonesia to expand in the region later. Due to local regulations for imported 4G smartphones limiting the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus decided to exit the Indonesian market in June 2016.
At the OnePlus six launch event on May 17, 2018, OnePlus announced opening five new OnePlus Experience stores in India and ten new service centers.
OnePlus Mobile in Bangladesh
The first smartphone of this brand, the OnePlus, received a lot of attention in the Bangladesh market. The concept of this brand could impress the Bangladeshi people a lot, especially the young generation who were looking for a premium smartphone at a reasonably low price. Recently, the OnePlus 6 attracted a lot of attention for its all-in-one approach. It is worth noting that OnePlus does not manufacture any low-end or lower-mid-range phones so far. As a result, the models are only available to those searching for a high-end smartphone.
